Alagus Printer Installer

   Alagus Printer Installer is a tool for remote installing/uninstalling network printers. It runs in Microsoft Widows Networks. The program is determined to help the system administrators. The API’s main function is to make the process of installing and uninstalling the printers in your LAN easier. Generally Alagus Printer Installer is a graphic interface for working with the library PrintUI.dll. Printer User Interface (printui.dll), created from Microsoft especially local and remote installing, reinstalling and managing the printers. Alagus Printer Installer remove the need of writing scripts in the console and all that is left is several clicks with the mouse.

Installation
   Alagus Printer Installer doesn’t need installation. Just copy the program files in the chosen directory and start api.exe. Now the program is ready to work.

System requirements
   Alagus Printer Installer don’t have any special requirements to the hardware. The only software requirement is the operational system. Alagus Printer Installer can work with Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003. A compulsory requirement for the printers to be manipulated is the destination computers to run also Microsoft Windows 2000/ XP/2003.

Features
   Alagus Printer Installer gives you the possibilities of:
   - Distant installation/reinstallation of printers in your LAN;
   - The printers installed with Alagus Printer Installer are located in the default profile of the computers. Every new user who logged on the computer has them installed automatically. This means that you don’t have to add printer connections when tuning the new profiles;
   - Working with standard windows with printer properties, print-server properties and printer in queue view.
   - Saving the printer’s settings in a file and restoring them from a file.

Using Alagus Printer Installer
   The main window of Alagus Printer Installer contains standard Tool-bar, Status bar, Main menu, and two panels - Print Server (s) and Target Computer (s) and Log panel.

   The left panel Print Server(s) shows you the Network View tree of your LAN. You can browse your workgroups and Alagus Printer Installer shows only the computers that are print servers and their printers. Here you can mark the printers, which you want to be installed.
The right panel Target Computer(s) is similar like the left one except that here you can see all of the computers in the chosen workgroup. You can mark the computers on which you would like to install or uninstall printers.
   Under these two panels is the Log-panel where you can see the result of the operations that have been done.
   At the bottom are the Status bar and the Progress bar. The Status bar shows the current state of Alagus Printer Installer. The progress bar on the other hand shows the computer/printer, which Alagus Printer Installer is scanning at the moment.

Getting Started
   Before starting working with Alagus Printer Installer you have to know that in order to complete any operations on a distant computers and printers you must have administrative rights. If you are sure that you have the required rights just start API.EXE.

Installing printers
   The process of installing printers with Alagus Printer Installer is a simple as it can be. All you have to do is to select the desired Print Server(s) in the left panel select the computers on which the chosen printers will be installed and choose Install Printer(s) from the Main menu, the context menu or the  icon from the Tool bar. After the installation on every computer the spooler service will restart automatically. Through the installation you can track the current computer which is being manipulated and the share of the finished computers in the Status bar and Log bar. If the option Verify after Install/Uninstall is checked Alagus Printer Installer automatically will check the result of the installation.

Uninstalling printers
   To uninstall you just select the desired printers in the right panel Target Computer(s). Chose Uninstall Printer(s) from the main menu, context menu or the  icon from the Tool bar. After the uninstalling Alagus Printer Installer restarts the spooler service of the computers. Through the uninstall process you can track the current computer which is being manipulated and the share of the finished computers in the Status bar and Log bar. If the option Verify after Install/Uninstall is checked Alagus Printer Installer automatically will check the result of the uninstall process.

Printer Properties, Print Server Properties, Printer – Queue View
   To see some of the windows Printer Properties, Print Server Properties, Printer – Queue View, first choose a printer from the left panel and an option from the Main menu, context menu or the ,  or icons in the Tool bar.

Save and Restore printer configuration
   Alagus Printer Installer gives you the opportunity to save in file your printer’s settings and to load them if you decide.

Store all printer settings into a file
   Choose a printer in the left panel Print Server(s) and choose Store all printer settings into a file from the Main menu, the context menu or with the  icon in the Tool bar. A standard save dialog will ask you where and with what name to save the configuration file of the printer. Press Save and that is all.

Restore all printer settings from a file
   Choose a printer in the left panel Print Server(s) and choose Restore all printer settings from a file from the Main menu, the context menu or with the  icon in the Tool bar. A standard dialog will ask you where and with what name is saved the configuration file that you are about to load to the printer. Point to it. Press Load but only if you are sure that this configuration file is made from the chosen printer.
